The north west ridge was the best dive of the day. The two Olive Riddle Sea Turtles that we ran into, seemed to wat to play with us. They stuck around for about 15 min. of our dive. Very playful. Shortly after that we swam with two Spotted Eagle Rays. They did not seen to be so keen to see us. They shot off into the abyss shortly after spotting them. I did get a photo of a White Spotted Moray Eel. This is the first time I have seen one here in Puerto. He was very cool.
A great day at the Hidden Port.
Come and join the Puerto Dive Team and check it out!

Name That Shark

Hi all
The diving this summer has been nuthing short of great! As we started working our way back up the reef to end out dive. I saw a very familiar tale sticking out of a long ledge. It was a shark tale! To be more specific it was a Nurse Shark, about 7 feet long. He was just sitting under this ledge chilling out for the day. Almost like he was taking a nap. We shot some photos and moved on. We went deep today at presser point. The turtles where out along with a big school of Bump Head Paritfish. It was just a great day to see the fault line with its unusual topography. It so nice when you can see so far down the line with it's large crack and holes. It's so hard to explain you have to see it for your self.
So get down here and dive with the Puerto Dive Team.

Cold Water is Gone

For about 2 week we had some cold water (about 21C. or 70F.) but things are back to normal once again. We had quite a current, so we did a magnificent drift dive along a spot we call Tall Walls. We have seen currents. Some currents that should run South East change in one day to a north west direction over night. And we have seen some of the coldest currents we have ever seen in the last 10 years. We were getting thurmoclines with 10 too 15 degree differential. I think some of this was contributed by the large number of hurricanes we have had this year. The good news is it seems to be settling down. We still have some green water but its getting better and better every week. We are getting about 10 meters vis on the average. Not the 25 to 35 we should be getting this time of year. I think we are in the clear from here on out. I will keep you upto date as the conditions change.
The Whales have been spotted for the last three days. The water is BLUE, BLUE, BLUE. This is the time to get down here and see Puerto diving at its best. We will be planning a trip to Roca Blanca next week. To see some big groupers. If you have never been down with a grouper the size of a small car it can be a bit over wellmming, but a big rush. Should be a great trip.
The dive today was at the outer reef off Punta Colorada. the Eagle Rays are all over I did not see much more it seemed every time I looked I saw a nuther ray and was off after it. A great dive in the blue, clear, warm, (87) waters of Puerto Escondido.

VACATION

Puerto Dive Center will be closed on July 19 until August 1st We are going on vacation
Thank You
The Puerto Dive Team

whale shark
Puerto Dive Center

WHALE SHARK

Will let's see a nother great day with the Puerto Dive Team. We dropped down on a fun reef Coral panicle. Right away we spoted a nice green sea turtle. That swam with us for about 5 minutes. Then 2 spotted eagle rays came over to visit us. After we saw a big green moray eel swim out of his hole it was time to start our ascent. We got to our safety stop after swimming through a big school of yellow tale snappers. After one min hangging out in the distance I could see a very big shadow coming towards us. It took about 5 seconds before I could tell what it was. A
WHALE SHARK !! About 10 feet long with two remoras on its tale. It circled us for three passes that seemed to take about an hour but it was only 2 minutes before it swam off. What a great way to end an already great dive.

DIVING IN THE RAIN

This is the rainy season for Puerto, and the diving could not get better. For some reason unlike most places in the world. The day after a big rain the water here gets so beautiful blue, and the diving is spectacular. Even in the rain it is very nice. Like they say lets go get wet. Just a bit before we get in the water. The spotted eagle rays are back in big numbers. Just today we spotted 4 in one dive. Calm, clear, warm water what every diver look for in a great dive. Come by and visit with the Puerto Dive Team. Lets go diving.

One big turtle waiting for us to get in the water
Puerto Dive Center

80 FOOT VIS

We got 80 foot vis today with no surge very calm and clear dive. The sight of two spotted eagle rays makes me feel very good they are back for the summer. This is the indication of some great diving to come. Also very cool to see a black and white ringed eel. This is not something we see every day. We see moray and snowflake eels on every dive and some times a orange and white ringed eel, but the black and white ringed eel is definitely something special. With the clear water it is very easy to see our friendly green sea turtles hanging out above us in about 50 feet (15M.) of water, we saw 3 on this dive. All in all a nether fantastic dive at the Hidden Port.

Blue Water

The water here in Puerto Escondido is clear blue and very warm about 86f - 31c this is wet suit optional diving. Today we looked a Preacher point. This is the fault line dive. It was very nice the formations of the plates you can see from 50 feet al the way down the face of the fault to about 100 feet.
The dive of the day was of cores Punta Colorada my favorite spot The fish life today was nothing short of spectacular. School after school of a verity of fish schools of fish by the hundreds. It is so fun to swim into a school of yellow tale tanges the are feeding on the white coral and do not even notice that you are there. Lets not forget our two big green seaturtles. That we see on almost every dive at this spot. In all just a great day under the water with the Puerto Dive Team.

setting my computer for the next dive
Puerto Dive Center

WATER WARMING UP

Sunday, March 13, 2005
Water Warming Up
We had a nice dive today. We saw many baby Sting Rays. The vis was not great now, but we do see signs of it clearing up in the next 2 or 3 days. The water is warming up again, and we are not feeling so many thermclines. Just nice warn water again. Very few thermo clines. With the constant temputure the plankton should relax and the water will not be so green. That is the best way I can explain it not being a scientist. We should be diving in our 2 mil. sorties wet suits very soon. It’s a great time to dive The Hidden PortReminder: Semana Santa will be here on the 18th of this month. After a 5 day spell of green water, it's nice to have 40- 50 feet vis again. The vis should just get better and better for the next few weeks. the swell is coming from the south west again, and that's what we look for to have clear water. We had a great time on the way to our dive spot today. We got to run with a pod of white spotted dolphins. They where bow ridding the boat all the way to Bochoco Reef. as we stopped they just keep going, until they where out of sight. Very Fun! On our dive it was time to catch some lobster. We came up with 5 not a bad catch. In the water the dive started out with 2 butiful green sea turtles. And about 10 minutes into the dive a black cloud came over the the top of us. It was the school of baby mantas. For a long 35 seconds they swam over head and then off into the distance. What a site. We then had a school of barracuda that circled us for 2 minutes. Ever feel like fish food? What a great dive already. To end the dive we spotted a big green mory eel. Come on down and do some diving. I seen to never get board of see a 70 foot or 21 mt animal jump out of the water less than 15 feet or 5 mt away from the boat. Oh yes the diving has been very nice also. We saw a big school of barracuda that circled us for about 10 min very cool! The vis at punta calarada has been about 12 to 13 mt the last three days, and the water temp has gone back to normal about 80 f. There we tried to catch some lobster but they where to quick for us this time. "No lobster for dinner tonight" We where followed by to big paritfish the whole dive.
